Why X videos come in several sizes
X stores each video at several resolutions, from small previews up to 720p or 1080p depending on what was uploaded. We list every size with its estimated file size, so you can pick a small file for sharing or the best copy for archiving.
GIFs, public posts and limits
Animated GIFs on X are stored as short MP4 videos, so they download as MP4. Only public posts can be saved: protected accounts, deleted posts and posts that contain only images or text have nothing to download. We never ask for your X password.

Troubleshooting X (Twitter) downloads
- It says the post has no video
- The post may contain only images or text, or the video may be a link to another site such as YouTube. Open the post and check that a video plays inside it.
- The account is protected
- Posts from protected accounts need a login and cannot be downloaded.
- The link will not work
- Copy the link again from the Share menu. Make sure it points to a single post (it contains /status/).
- The quality is low
- X only keeps the sizes the uploader provided. We list all of them and pick the best by default.
Tips for saving X videos
- Use Share, then Copy link to get a clean post link.
- Pick MP4 and the highest quality for archiving; choose a smaller size to share quickly.
- Credit the original poster when you reshare a saved video.
